COVID-19 and Remote Learning Experiences

Jaylin Cloutier

The ability to read, write, listen, and present in various contexts and for various audiences. This means being able to make a proposal of an idea and turn it into an informational project that can be presented to different people for various reasons. It is also important to showcase how a project can entail comprehension and presentation as these are valuable skills in the professional world.

This project was about conducting interviews in order to answer an original research question. My research question was: How do college students feel about remote learning due to COVID-19? I started by creating interview questions, scheduling times to meet with five different students, using the responses to develop a coding sheet and identify themes, and using my information to write about positive, negative, and future experiences from the students I interviewed.

I had transcripts for each interview, which were conducted via Zoom, and read through each answer numerous times after listening to them in real-time. I was then able to write about how these experiences could further answer my research question. Finally, I presented my findings and insight on this subject to my peers and instructor. This project can be beneficial to not only students who had to adjust to online learning, but professors and teachers could take away information from this project. It is important to understand how students learn, how professors teach, and how learning online is either an impactful or an unsatisfactory experience.
